"Over the course of three days the biennial Vienna Art Book Fair #2 provides a platform for artists, collectives, self-publishers, small publishing houses, antiquarian booksellers, art libraries, institutions, printers, collectors and for all those who are dedicated to the medium of the book. On this weekend the Expositur Vordere Zollamtsstraße 7 will be turned into a booklovers adventure park. The artists’ book as a democratic work of art will be the focus of the VABF. Hence, it is of great importance for us to keep the event free and open to the public."

"In der Ausstellung „INFRAROT“ präsentieren über 20 FotografInnen ihre Position zum Thema Infrarotfotografie. Die Bandbreite der Schau reicht von Landschaftsaufnahmen über Stadtansichten bis zu Stillleben. Wie unterschiedlich die Motive und die Herangehensweise der FotografInnen sein mögen, alle Fotografien eint der märchenhafte bzw. surreale Charakter, den die aufgenommene infrarote Strahlung den Bildern verleiht. So wirken viele Fotografien so, als wären sie bei Mondlicht aufgenommen und nehmen die BesucherInnen der Ausstellung mit auf eine Reise in ein unbekanntes, surreales Land. Willkommen im Land der Träume!"

photo::vienna was founded by Mirjam Angerer-Geier and Felix Leutner as a platform for photography and has shaped the Austrian photography scene as a source of inspiration from 2014-2017. We thank all who participated and made this possible.
NEW PERSPECTIVES ON PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography is one of the youngest and simultaneously most exciting art forms: a pictorial language that draws on the tension between the two seemingly opposing poles of voyeurism and exhibitionism. It produces and leaves behind emotions; it moves, unsettles, and attracts. With its intense atmosphere, photography inspires, stimulates, and opens the way for critical dialogue.
At the event photo::vienna art photography, architecture and portrait photography as well as advertising, editorial, and journalistic photography all have been shown under the banner of “applied photography.” The event thus served as a showcase for the general public and as a forum for professionals on the lookout for new trends and developments.
SHARPENING VISUAL SENSITIVITIES
As the first showcase for contemporary photography from Austria, photo::vienna presented a broad overview of what makes photography so exciting and is thus be of great interest to galerists, curators, collectors, art buyers, agency art directors, photo editors, etc. This platform also provided a place for the exchange of interest and ideas among the wider community of photography fans.
A select jury ensured the high level of photographic excellence shown at photo::vienna.

Während des ViennaPhotobookFestivals 2016 hatten wir Gelegenheit, eine vor dem Umbau befindliche Location für eine Ausstellung zu nützen. Die Bücher aus KRETA2 und Bilder und Dummies der Teilnehmerprojekte waren zu sehen und zu erwerben. Im oberen Bereich wurde eine Art Lounge zum gemütlichen Schmökern eingerichtet.

Anzenberger Masterclass 2015/2016
Die Gallerie Anzenberger in Wien veranstaltet zum zweiten Mal die > Anzenberger-Masterclass. Ich arbeitete mit den anderen elf Teilnehmern am gemeinsamen Projekt, der Herausgabe des KRETA-Magazins . Unter dem Titel KRETA2 versuchten wir Aspekte des Lebens in einem Teil des Wiener 10. Bezirkes fotografisch aufzuarbeiten. Das sogenannte Kreta-Viertel ist geprägt durch ein stark gemischtes multikulturelles Zusammenleben im Raum eines typischen Arbeiterbezirkes. Dort befindet sich auch die AnzenbergerGallery in der "alten Ankerbrot-Fabrik". Der Ziegelsteinbau wurde inzwischen zu einem Kunst-, Kultur- und Veranstaltungszentrum umgestaltet. Das Sonnwendviertel ist geprägt durch den Bau des neuen Zentralbahnhofs für Wien. Das ehemalige Gelände ist eine der größten Baustellen Wiens, auf der unzählige neue Wohnbauten entstehen.

Under a crazy motorway junction exists a rest for nature
In those conversations we soon focused on how Gigapan scientists, artists and citizens might capture, document and annotate their local landscapes - the nearby and not necessarily the exotic. The challenge was to use empowering high-resolution Gigapan imaging to connect people to the nearby biodiversity in their own living space. Not a far flung field site, or an iconic but distant National Park - but your local woodlot at work, or backyard or nearby running trail. We imagined using these widely separated, but nearby, panoramas as a way of collecting biodiversity data - similar to the Christmas bird count - where citizen scientists surveyed their world, then distributed and shared that data with the world through public Gigapans. The plus of the Gigapan approach was that the sharing was bi-directional - not merely "this is what I saw", but also hearing someone say, "this is what I found". Coordinating the first Nearby Nature GigaBlitz was very rewarding and we all learned from each stage of the process. In the end, we were delighted in the geographic breadth represented in the submitters. It was challenging to reduce all the entries to the eight Gigapans featured here. They were chosen from a wide array of panoramas that captured a great amount of the nearby nature of a global community.
This project would not be possible without support from the Fine Outreach for Science and the Fine Foundation, Illah Nourbakhsh and the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, GigaPan and the Nearby Nature Jurors.
